About Rootnode
Rootnode is a society that has just started its second year of activity. The strength of rootnode lies in people who work for the benefit of the community. We communicate through a mailing list and an IRC channel (irc.rootnode.net, #rootnode). Rootnode gathers IT specialists of all sorts, including java, perl, python and ruby programmers, admins and net specialists. Rootnode is the magic of a black screen: we prefer simple solutions, but we're not afraid of ambitious challenges. Everyone is invited to join.

Rules
The most important thing to know is that we are not a hosting company. We're not a commercial entity and you can't use our resources to run a business. If you need commercial solutions with guarantees of availability that also provide access to system shell, check out what professional companies have to offer. We are not interested in competing with such companies.
Servers
We use our own dual-processor, multicore (dual/quad) servers. Each unit has from 8 to 16 GB of RAM, disks are in a hardware RAID10 array. Each server is optimized for the specific service it provides - we have 2 dedicated torrent servers, 2 www servers, 1 java server, 1 database server and 1 shell server. Everything works together smoothly.
Cons?
We won't give you an invoice and cannot guarantee an 99% uptime. But instead we offer direct contact with our devoted admins on IRC (they're normal people just like you ;)). You become a part of community eager to help you with your problems, where you can easily find people to start an IT project. Yes, breakdowns happen, services fail, servers can be unstable. Just like everywhere else. We constantly work on improving our offer, add new hardware and optimize services. We started with one server and look how far we've come in only one year!
