We have quite subversive and unique philosophy as we do not aim to be a commercial company but a fully fledged shell hosting initiative. Rootnode is all about community. We have great people in one place. Everyone can contribute and everyone can decide how this project will look like.
There are many cons that you need to be aware of.
We do not guarantee anything
No SLA, no up-time guaranteed, no refunds. If you are looking for 99.9% professional services, Rootnode is not for you.
We are not everyone’s service
You would need to traverse through a huge documentation. If you only want to press a button to make things work, you are lazy and you do not have any knowledge of GNU/Linux then Rootnode is definitely not for you.
We do not provide support
That’s right, we don’t. Our community does. Admins do not have time to dive into every problem you encounter. We communicate via mailing list and IRC channel. People will help you out if you describe the problem correctly.
There are other users
Remember that you are not alone. You share resources with others. It is not a dedicated server. If you need one, buy one. We do not limit anything but respect others and don’t make their work harder.
Life is full of crap. Hardware fails, we do mistakes and not everything works as it should. But we do not hide anything. Every problem is reported at the status site which is independent from our infrastructure. You are getting noticed even when power outage strikes.
