On the main site you could see that we do not offer support. Nevertheless, many people say that we do the best support of any company. Few simple rules to make everyone happy:

  • Be polite, even if somebody else is not.
  • Describe your problem precisely: no dot use fake domains, paths and so on. Just real examples, real commands and real error messages.
  • Remember to include login name and name of the server(s) you have been using. It will help to debug your problem.
  • Make sure that you searched our documentation and mailing list archives before asking questions.

Smart order: IRC, Mailing list, Mail.

IRC channel

The best way contacting us is IRC: #rootnode channel on irc.freenode.net network. Many Rootnode users are sitting there all day long and having fun. It is also the most convenient way to debug problems you encounter. Admins have @ before nickname. Please do not query admins directly, just ask your questions on the channel.

Run IRC client in your browser now.

Mailing lists

The official way of solving problem is mailing list. We have several lists in two languages. Other language has an appropriate suffix, e.g. users becomes users-pl.

Name Description
users, users-pl The most important list as we solve problems there and discuss additional features and current development. Everything Rootnode related goes here. To subscribe send an empty email to users+subscribe@lists.rootnode.net.
hydepark, hydepark-pl Everything else you post here. To subscribe send an empty e-mail to hydepark+subscribe@lists.rootnode.net.
announce, announce-pl Read-only list where all notifications from RootnodeStatus page are sent to.

Emergency

Information about outages we put on Rootnode Status page. This page is hosted outside our infrastructure and it should be available even when a disaster strikes down.

If you noticed that something very bad is happening and there is no information about it, you can send a text message directly to administrator directly from status page. Click Problem button displayed on the right and remember to describe your problem carefully. This option is not supposed to report individual, simple problems.

Mail

As a Rootnode user try to avoid contacting us by e-mail unless your mail is very personal. Use mailing list or IRC instead. If you have a business question or it is not appropriate to post on the mailing list, contact us directly via e-mail.

The e-mail address is admins@rootnode.net
